Air Pollution Measurement Manual, 2003
5th Edition, 2000, 3 Volumes
(Volume 3 was revised in 2003 to include the standard for the determination of odour concentration by dynamic olfactometry).
This a completely revised edition of the manual that is the basis of the Air Pollution Measurement course conducted by the Society. It is a practical guide to sampling and analysis prepared by experienced practitioners in air pollution measurement. The authors have varied backgrounds such as government environmental authorities, consulting companies, industry and academia. The first volume contains five sections – Introduction to Air Quality Monitoring, Meteorology, Quality Assurance and Quality Control, Measurement of Particles in Ambient Air, and Measurement of Gases in Ambient Air. The second volume contains eight sections – Measurement of Odours and Hydrocarbons, Stationary Source (Stack) Emission Testing, Measurement of Particulate Stationary Source Emissions, Measurement of Gaseous Stationary Source Emissions, Measurement of Specific Industrial Source Emissions, Laboratory Analysis of Air Pollutants, General Aspects of Monitoring, and Gas Facts. The third volume is a compendium of standards – 20 current Australian standards for measurement of ambient air, two Guides and two standards for stationary source emissions. This publication is an excellent reference book for those involved in the measurement of the major air pollutants and who require a working knowledge of the methods used. The volume containing the Australian Standards is an effective and economical reference in itself and is only available as part of this three volume publication.
Industrial Odour Control Manual, 1998
This manual was the basis of the Industrial Odour Control courses conducted by the Society. After an introduction indicating that odours were a problem before the 20th century, the basics of our olfactory sensory system are presented, which emphasises the considerable variation in people’s ability to detect odours. The subsequent chapters cover a range of subjects - Odour Measurement Methods, Odour Assessment Criteria and Odour Regulations, Dispersion of Odours and their Modelling, Community Attitudinal Surveys, Community Consultation, Design of Ventilation Systems for Buildings, Design of Process Ventilation Systems, Incineration, Odour Control by Wet Scrubbing, Odour Control by Chlorine Dioxide and Hydrogen Peroxide, Odour Control by Activated Carbon and Other Solid Absorbers, Biofiltration Technology Odour and VOC Control and Odour Neutralising Materials. The publication concludes with a number of case studies describing actual cases involving an animal by-products plant, the printing industry, a batch polymerisation plant and a polyester resin plant.
